Featured in Coast Living Magazine. Built in 1994 in the international modern style, this home sits on a cliff above the Sonoma coast. The new owners asked us to reimagine the house without altering its bones. We loved the materials and workmanship, and wanted to keep as much of the original design as possible. So, downstairs we created a lodge-like feeling: charcoal walls, earth tones, rich wood and worn leather, a mix of period pieces and new furnishings, and vintage-inspired light fixtures.

Featured in Coastal Living Magazine. This home near The Sea Ranch, California, is an architectural masterpiece built in 1994, but fashioned in the mid-century style of Craig Ellwood. Its new owners asked us to revive the formidable structure without altering its bones. The clients wanted the interiors to live up to its architecture. It was our job to furnish it from top to bottom, to deliver artwork to every room, and to reimagine the kitchen as a streamlined version of the original one.

Downstairs, where the structure is ringed with the rocks and the walls are enveloped in Douglas fir, we created a lodge-like feeling: dark grey walls along the spine of the house, earth tones in rich wood and worn leather, cozy and warm textures, a mix of period pieces and new furnishings, and vintage-inspired light fixtures.

Upstairs, where ocean views predominate, we delivered floating beds, soft textures, white walls, and an emphasis on the coastal light. 

The unifying force throughout the house is artwork inspired by the supergraphics of the Sea Ranch, where Barbara Solomon delivered graphic impact with nothing but paint and her vision. Bold lines, oversize letters, and graphic images repeat themselves in every space—on walls, in photographs, on canvases, and even on the garage doors as the oversize ombre numbers announce the address.
