Featured in Palm Springs Life. Our clients came to us with a simple brief: Steve McQueen. Naming their Racquet Club Estates home 'The Landing Pad,' the owners wanted to refresh their Palmer & Krisel designed house to create a McQueen-worthy bachelor pad vibe.

Featured in Palm Springs Life. Our clients came to us with a simple brief: Steve McQueen. Calling this Palmer & Krisel-designed home 'The Landing Pad,' the owners wanted to create a McQueen-worthy bachelor pad vibe. Problem was, the house was more 90's 'Weekend at Bernie's’ than 60's 'Bullitt.' A series of updates had taken away most of the original features. Without the budget for an extensive remodel, we needed to creatively fold those later elements into the mix.

Problem was, the house was more 90's 'Weekend at Bernie's" than 60's 'Bullitt.' A series of updates had taken away most of the original sharp angles and aluminum framing, replacing it with single pane wood French doors and big box store tile. Without the budget for an extensive remodel, we needed to think creatively and fold those elements into the mix.

We proposed a masculine mix of crisp lines, saturated colors and graphic punch — including a plaid bed. We borrowed the idea for an oversized brown ottoman-as-coffee-table from McQueen's own South Ridge living room, and created a mural of Brigitte Bardot for one of the bedrooms. Stripping the ceiling to expose the natural grain took the focus off the floors and gave those wooden French doors a reason to be.

We borrowed from several decades; kept the elements simple and spare, and chose vintage pieces with great profiles— from the cantilevered dining chairs to the Stiffel lamps. We'd like to think this sequel took it's cues from the original, but played the scene in a whole new way.
